John Falter and Falls City

Monday, October 24, 2016

At the age of 6, John P. Falter and his family moved to Falls City. His father opened the Falter Clothing Store. Through the 20’s, John created a comic strip that was published in the Falls City Journal, graduated high school, and then attended the Kansas City Art Institute.

From here, John went on to do many great things as an artist. His work was featured on The Saturday Evening Post for 25 years. He also did other illustrations for well-known magazines throughout the years. He was elected to the Illustrators Hall of Fame in 1976, and made a member of the National Academy of Western Art in June of 1978.

Much has been done to remember him since his death in 1982. In Falls City, there is the John Falter Memorial Park. To learn more about Falter or the Park, visit the Falls City website here: http://www.fallscitynebraska.org/falls-city/about/famous-falls-cityans
