In a unanimous vote on April 7, 2025, the Falls City Council adopted a resolution authorizing the next steps for the Energy Forward: Falls City Transmission Improvements Project, a transformative initiative aimed at strengthening the city’s electric grid capacity, resilience, and readiness for future growth.

The adopted resolution empowers city administration to pursue Network Integrated Transmission Service (NITS) status, execute the grant agreement awarded by the Nebraska Department of Economic Development (Contract No. 25-01-302), and initiate the solicitation of engineering services to advance the project toward shovel-ready status. Additionally, the resolution authorizes the establishment of a dedicated special reserve fund to support the project’s financing and long-term success.

This is a major step forward for Falls City. Our community is investing in critical infrastructure that not only improves reliability for our existing customers but also prepares us for future economic development opportunities.

The Energy Forward project follows a comprehensive feasibility study completed in partnership with Falls City EDGE, which estimated project costs between $30 million and $40 million. With the support of a $15 million  grant and a committed local funding match, Falls City is poised to significantly enhance its electrical system capacity and redundancy.
