Downtown Electric Project Update – November 2025
The City of Falls City continues to make progress on the Downtown Underground Electric Project, which is improving the reliability, safety, and appearance of our downtown electric system.
Cutovers Have Begun
The process of transferring customers’ electric service from existing overhead lines to the newly installed underground system is now underway. Watts Electric will contact each affected customer directly to schedule a temporary outage — generally lasting 1 to 5 hours — to complete the transfer. Once your service is moved underground, the overhead connection will be removed.
Spectrum Services
Spectrum will coordinate its own cable transfers separately. These will not be handled by Watts Electric.
Project Phases and Schedule
| Phase | Area | Cutover Schedule |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Chase/Stone – 11th to 16th | Oct 27–Nov 14 |
| 2 | Chase/Stone – 16th to 20th | Nov 17–Dec 5 |
| 3 | Stone/Harlan – 11th to 16th | TBD |
| 4 | Stone/Harlan – 16th to 18th | TBD |
After Phases 1 and 2 are complete, removal of the overhead poles and wires is expected to begin as early as January 2026, weather permitting. The full undergrounding project is anticipated to be completed by Spring 2026.
