Open House Meeting: Phase 1 Downtown Electrical Improvement Project

The City of Falls City will host a public open house meeting on Tuesday, March 26, 2024 to provide an update on the electrical system construction through Downtown Falls City. The meeting will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Southeast Community College Falls City Learning Center, 3200 Bill Schock Boulevard. No formal presentation is planned, and attendees can stop by at their convenience. 

Construction on the electrical upgrades is tentatively scheduled to begin this spring through fall 2024. The project will convert approximately 14 blocks of the downtown business alley overhead powerlines to an underground system, making the system more resilient to weather events and safer for the public. Watts Electrical Company (Watts) will complete the work. 

“We are excited to start working on this important community project,” said Trevor Campbell, Falls City Public Works Director. “These electrical upgrades will provide reliable and resilient electricity for our entire community.”

The age and condition of the existing overhead system in the downtown area is nearing the end of its useful life and no longer provides reliable electricity for the Falls City community. Design for the upgraded electrical system began in 2021, with a meeting held for downtown businesses along the alignment that October. JEO Consulting Group (JEO) and Olsson, Inc. (Olsson) designed the electrical upgrades.
