Falls City, Nebraska has continued to invest in our parks and recreation department to ensure that our residents have an excellent quality of life - one that includes time in outdoor spaces. This has been more important than ever in a year where social distancing has become the norm. Fortunately, there are a lot of parks to play in and social distance in Falls City. Recently, one of our park assets - the tennis courts got an upgrade.

This year, the Falls City Parks and Recreation Department resurfaced the tennis courts to great reviews on Facebook. David von Behren said, “The courts tonight were fantastic! Grateful to the Parks and Rec and City of FC for resurfacing these bad boys!”

Derek Maze said, “The old concrete tennis courts I learned on as a kid and have played on countless times over the years with my dad are finally resurfaced like the courts I play on in Lincoln. Now coming back to play with my Dad is that much better. Thanks Falls City for this huge improvement that means so much to us.”

For sports, residents also enjoy the Fiedler Family Ball Complex with Google reviews that include, “Nice ball park. Amazing crew to help get it ready” and “Nice ball park lots of parking”. The adjacent splash pad gets a lot of attention in the summer as well with Local Google Guide Shirley Timothy writing, “The splash pad is amazing for children and hot grown ups. Great for birthday parties and just for fun my grandchildren love it and it’s free.”

Of course, if you want to cool off, you can’t beat the Falls City Aquatic Center where even with social distancing rules, families were able to enjoy a summer at the pool. The Falls City Aquatic Center is more than just swimming - it’s like going to a water park with fast slides, but in your own backyard!

In the fall, kids take a break from the pool and have their fun at the Skate Park at Pioneer Park. The park has ramps, half pipes and plenty of space to try new tricks.

Furry friends also have a place to romp in Falls City. The Falls City Dog Park provides a safe and contained space for dogs, and their owners, to play fetch and get some exercise.

No list of Falls City parks can be complete without recognizing Stanton Lake Park. The park is a community treasure with a beautiful arboretum of native Nebraska trees. It is open for year round family fun and hosts annual events like the Fish Bowl Frenzy Disc Golf Tournament, Earth Day celebrations, and National Night Out. Karla Capps recommended Stanton Lake Park as a, “great place for weddings and family reunions.” Tourists enjoy it too with Trygve Erickson writing, “Be sure to walk the arboretum on the site. In total a wonderful gem of a RV campground. We were in a 39 ft Class A. Even 50 amp service!”. RV’s can camp at the park for just $20 a day, making it an affordable and beautiful place to relax.
