The Father of Sports in Falls City

Monday, January 15, 2018

You may be aware that the Falls City stadium is named after John (Jug) Brown but do you know why? Jug Brown was an incredible Nebraska athlete. He started his career on the undefeated 1922 Lincoln High School football team. Later on in life he moved to professional coaching and came to Falls City.

His work building the local athletics teams put Falls City on the map. In 1934, his football team was undefeated and in 1939 his Tigers won the state basketball championship in the Class A Division. These are only two examples of the many successes Fall City teams had under the leadership of Coach Brown. He was inspirational and was able to bring out the best in young athletes. Many of our local citizens still remember playing under Coach Brown and he lives on in our hearts.
